4 months!

Brigid had her four month doctor's appointment, AND her official measurements were taken. She's over 13 pounds, and she's 25 inches long! Or is that 2'1" tall? Because these days she's spending a lot of her time standing up, holding onto our hands (or sometimes just one hand!) or with our hands on her hips. And if Dad or Mom isn't there to help her to her favorite, upright position? Well, she'll lie on her front or back, playing with anything she can reach, twisting and turning to take in everything her eyes can see, and to grab everything her hands can reach.

What are Brigid's favorite things at this age? Playing SUPER BRIE! with her dad, wherein he zooms her all around the apartment, as she holds herself in a rigid, hortizontal position, like the old-school Superman shows. Dad supplies the "vrooom!"ing noise and the requisite cries of "Super Brie!" at suitable intervals. Smiling at anyone who will smile at her. Trying to get the entire world into her mouth. Playing with that cute baby in the mirror. Going on walks with her mom. Being held upside down and giggling. Having her tummy nibbled on and giggling. Using her caretakers as jungle gyms. STANDING UP. Sitting up, though this is not as much fun, but still is acceptable as a position that lets her play with her toys. Grabbing her feet. And, yes, our strange girl still thinks it's just a hoot to get her diaper changed. "Who's all wet?" makes her squeal with delight. I think it's a combination of getting out of her clothes and of having her mom's undivided attention. Diaper changing inevitably involves tickling and belly-bustering and LOTS of conversation. Ah. And that's one last one. Conversation. Every once and a while, we sit down with our daughter and have a nice chat about the state of the world. "How's our pretty girl?" "Ah-goooo." "Really? Why is that?" "Huhhhhum, goo-ahhhhhh." "Good to know." And then there's our fun standing up game of, "You're so tall! Who made you so tall? Jesus made you so tall!"

And, as this is a late entry, it's also my delight to wish a HAPPY FOUR MONTHS! to my niece Elisa too. She's cute as a button, and rather talented to boot. You should see that girl play the rattle. Happy birthday, kiddo!
