We SO called the hymns at church today.
Okay, we called A hymn at church today. We thought "We plow the fields and scatter" would be on the menu, and so it was. HA!!!
Thanksgiving Mass is funny. Since lots of people are traveling Thanksgiving morning, there were only a few people in the church. So it's a really small service. That always feels funny at our church, since I get so used to the crowded, noisy Sunday services.
Anyway, today I discovered that going to church on Thanksgiving felt like the most appropriate action possible - because it lets you do on the holiday what the holiday was created to do: give thanks to God. Somehow it seemed truer of Thanksgiving than any of the other holidays. I mean, you don't make Christmas more Christmas by any action of yours: Christ came, and you can't really add much to that. But Thanksgiving is a time set apart for us to do something, and it was good to have help of our parish in thanking God today.
You know how sometimes something you do because you think you should ends up being something better than you expected? Church today ended up being that kind of thing. And for that, too, thanks be to God!
The other funny thing about Thanksgiving is watching folks go for walks around the neighbourhood pre-feast. There's a very determined-looking fellow who's past in front of our house twice while I've been writing this. Go, guy, go! :D
