more updates

Well, I just called the NICU to get a morning update on the girls (we'll be visiting them in the afternoon).

Kate is still doing well, though her bilirubin (what causes jaundice) is up a bit. She's on full feeds now, and they're actually fortifying my breastmilk when they give it to her (adding extra calories) to help with her weight gain. They tried giving her a bottle, but after a couple of sucks she wasn't very interested.

Jane has had a bit of a setback in that she's back under the bili lights (for jaundice) and isn't quite digesting all of her feeds (they check their stomachs before they feed them, to make sure they digested all of the last feed). It wasn't enough undigested milk for them to stop feeding her, but it's a little worrying. They think it might be because she hasn't pooped yet (never, in her entire life!), so they're giving her a glycerin chip (?) to try to get things moving. So . . . please pray that Jane's jaundice gets better, and that her digestive system starts working properly. That really is the next big hurdle for her, and it's important that it goes well.

love,
Jessica

a "glycerine chip" is just a small piece of a suppasitory. It is no big deal...Providence needed them until she was 1 to help her move things along.
Pooping will help her bilirubun too...you can do it we are praying for you little one!
