[crumble]

As you all know, we are getting new housemates in the near future. This is a Good Thing but it marks the end of an era. You see, for the past several months, we have had cable modem at our house, provided courtesy of Biola University, because Dan's job requires some time put in logging in from home to do server maintenance, which would just be painful over a dial-up line. Dan is moving. Thus, the cable modem will have to go too.

In a half-hearted response to this, I checked to see what it would cost us to get dsl into our home so that we can keep up that great American tradition of frivoling away hours on the internet. $12.99 per month. Plus whatever charges they throw at us for start-up. But nonetheless, $12.99! Per month!

Thus, the geek side of me and the blog side of Jessica rejoice at the prospect of not losing our connection to the outside world (we don't have a tv) but the old-fashioned, Texas boy in me whimpers and curls up in a corner and wishes once again that we lived in a cabin on a lake with nothing more complex than a radio and a bb gun, where we could live off of our amassed wealth (maintained by a high-tech, fully secured, completely automated banking system) and ignore the fact that it's a big, scary, fast-paced world out there.

Oh well.
