The ultrasound went really well, but we won't get results till the middle of the week. But it felt very prayed for; the technician was able to get all the pictures she wanted, which she said often doesn't happen because the babies pee before she's done (she needed a full bladder in order to get everything). And the technician had two little kids too, which made the whole experience much more relaxing, because we spent the time talking shop. So thanks for praying. Please continue to pray that Sam's okay.
After a couple weeks of waking up four times a night, Samuel slept through the night last night. That was wonderful. But his diaper in the morning had more discoloration than we'd ever seen. While that does seem to indicate that the problem's connected to his fluid intake (no night nursing), it was really scary. But since it's already being looked into, we decided not to let it ruin the day, and we proceeded to have a Labor Day Adventure that involved:
1) a rabbit
2) a coyote that wasn't a mountain lion
3) a deer
4) HOT, HOT, HOT weather
5) a swimming pool
6) a leaky swim diaper
7) an unlocked car
8) a pear on the roof of the unlocked car that probably sent the message to potential thieves that nothing in said car was worth stealing
9) Monk
10) a food processor
11) AND flowers.
We went hiking in a local state park. We made it out there early for folks with two little kids, but late enough that most of the people we saw were coming down out of the canyon as we were hiking up it. We decided that none of the cyclists we passed could call us "wussy walkers" because we were each carrying some forty pounds of kid+water+pack. Plus, they got to coast on the way back. We saw a rabbit. We saw a deer. We saw a coyote. Conversation upon encountering the coyote:
JESS: (thinks: wow, that sounds big)
ADAM: Look!
JESS: It's a mountain lion!
ADAM: No, it's a coyote.
JESS: Oh. So it is. (tries to stop heart from beating so fast)
In my defense, the first thing I saw was it's back, which was nice and tawny, just the way a mountain lion's should be. And there ARE mountain lions living in this particular canyon. But all and all, I'm very glad it was just a coyote.
The deer was downright pretty, and the rabbit was just fun. But, when I was talking to Brie afterwards about what we'd seen, she insisted, "AND flowers." So, I have to add: we saw flowers too.
